MSIF Announces Final Investment Committee Member

Métis Settlements Development Corporation, a leader in Indigenous economic reconciliation, is thrilled to announce the appointment of the final member of its inaugural investment committee.

The Métis Settlements Impact Fund (MSIF) is a $100 million Impact Fund focused on investments that advance Indigenous economic reconciliation. Investments will be selected to positively impact Indigenous communities and populations across Canada. The fund will act as a source of prosperity for the next seven generations of Métis settlement members, led by Indigenous voices in all investment decisions.

With a steadfast commitment to driving positive change, the Métis Settlements Impact Fund aims to allocate capital towards ventures and projects that deliver measurable social and environmental benefits alongside financial returns. Leveraging a rigorous screening process and strategic investment approach, the fund will focus on sectors such as renewable energy, healthcare, sustainable agriculture, and indigenous entrepreneurs.

The investment committee provides the oversight and support required for the professional administration and implementation of MSIF ‘s investment activities.

We are incredibly excited to announce that Shannon Pestun has joined the committee as its seventh and final member.

Shannon originates from the Métis homeland and Treaty 1 territory and resides in Treaty 7 territory and is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta.

Shannon is the Senior Advisor to the Diversity Institute for Canada’s Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub and the 50-30 Challenge. She has over 10 years banking experience with ATB Financial and works with Emissions Reduction Alberta, where MSDC is a trusted partner, as a reviewer to provide strategic advice, support, oversight and assist with funding decisions.

In 2020, she created the Gifting Circle Bursary for Indigenous women entrepreneurs raising over $150,000 in support of advancing Indigenous women’s entrepreneurship in Canada. She founded the Finance Cafe podcast and consulting with her co-founder, Shauna Fredrick.
